Meet Our Veterinarians

Dr. Barbara Johnson

Dr. Barbara Johnson graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1999. She then completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, she was an associate for six years at a small animal practice in Woodland, California, where she gained experience in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency care. In 2006, Dr. Johnson moved to our practice in Visalia with her husband and family. She has an interest in internal medicine and enjoys staying current with research through veterinary journals and continuing education seminars.

Dr. Chris Peterson

Dr. Chris Peterson is a Visalia native and graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Dr. Peterson practiced large animal medicine for eight years before switching to small animal medicine in 2006. His interests include spending time with his wife and two daughters, golf, and poker.

Dr. Marianne Krumheuer

Dr. Marianne Krumheuer is a native of the Central Valley, born and raised in Bakersfield, California. She received both bachelor's of science and doctorate of veterinary medicine from UC Davis. Upon graduation, she accepted a position as an associate veterinarian at the Care Veterinary Clinics. During veterinary school, Dr. Krumheuer participated in several humanitarian trips to foreign countries, where she worked to treat animals that do not normally have access to veterinary care.

Dr. Krumheuer is most passionate about working to develop and preserve the human–animal bond. Her special interests include internal medicine and dentistry. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Krumheuer enjoys hiking and camping with her husband and their dog, Cody.

Dr. Bryan Proctor

Dr. Bryan Proctor, Owner

Dr. Bryan Proctor has been in private practice since graduating from Texas A&M University in 1993. While at Texas A∧M, Dr. Proctor earned a bachelor of science in both biomedical science and veterinary science before graduating with a degree in veterinary medicine. He has interests in small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Sonja Kooiman

Dr. Sonja Kooiman graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 after completing her undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science at the University of Arizona. During her university years, she worked for small animal and equine veterinarians in the Bay Area, Arizona, and Oregon. She also volunteered with several humane societies and animal rescue organizations. She was born in Fresno and was immediately drawn back to the central valley to work at Care Veterinary Clinic. Her hobbies include hiking with her two German Shepherds and ballet dancing.

Dr. Jaime Lee

Dr. Jaime Lee

Dr. Jaime Lee is originally from Southern California and earned her Bachelor's degree in Animal Biology from UC Davis. She moved to Kansas and received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Kansas State University. Dr. Lee has had previous experience working and volunteering in zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and humanitarian trips to underserved areas with minimal access to veterinary care. She is dedicated to enriching the human animal bond between people and their pets, and has special interests in exotic animal medicine and small animal internal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, trying new types of cuisines, and kicking back in a hammock with a good book.



Meet Our Friendly Staff

Cori

Cori is a Registered Veterinary Technician working at Courtyard. She prides herself on being a country girl, born and raised in Tulare, and growing up with horses. She loves all animals, the four members of her animal family include both dogs and cats.

Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea was born and raised in Visalia. She graduated from Redwood High School and attended COS. Her fur family consists of two rescue dogs, Abby a lab mix and Bagheera a German shepherd mix. Chelsea loves making people laugh with her fun personality. Chelsea loves spending her free time with her husband and son. Chelsea has a love for all kinds of different animals. She is loving working here and being able to see animals all day!

Amanda

Amanda

Amanda has been with Care since September 2017 as a Veterinary Assistant. She comes to us with 5 years previous Veterinary experience and an AS in Veterinary Technology. Her family consists of a loving husband and two cats, Rambo and Rocky. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching musicals and Disney movies, and spending time with family.

Valarie

Valarie

With a strong compassion for all animals, Valarie is excited to have joined our family at Courtyard as a receptionist. Aside from her love for animals, she also has a passion for hair and makeup and has been a licensed cosmetologist for 7 years. In her spare time she enjoys continuing to do hair and makeup. Her favorite pass time of all is taking family trips, spending time with her husband, son, and their rambunctious pug, Rambo.

Amanda

Amanda

Amanda is a Visalia native, with a strong love of animals. She grew up on a horse ranch, where she bred, raised and rode performance horses. She has two kids, two dogs, and two horses. Amanda enjoys hiking, riding her horses, and spending quality time with her children.

Yvonne

Yvonne

Yvonne moved to the Visalia area from Palm Springs. She has a passion for animals. Yvonne worked at Care Veterinary Clinic a few years back and unfortunately had to relocate. She has moved back and rejoined our team. Yvonne loves to travel, especially to the beach. She has one dog, a Pomeranian named Chito. She enjoys being around her family and also loves to refurbish furniture in her free time.

Tarissa

Tarissa

Tarissa is a local girl. She grew up in Tulare and is currently working as a Veterinary Assistant. She is a graduate from San Joaquin Valley College with a degree in Animal Science, Tarissa has goals of becoming a registered veterinary technicain. Bandit, a Labrador Retriever, and Marley, a Queensland Healer, keep her busy. In her spare time she enjoys spending quality time with her husband Garrick and family.

Nancy

Nancy

Nancy has been a receptionist at Care at the Courtyard since early 2019. She has been in the veterinary field for over 25 years. She loves working with people and has a great love for animals. She grew up on a dairy farm in Denair, CA. Nancy has always had animals in her life from cows and horses to cats and dogs! Nancy shares her home with a red heeler named Abby, a cat named Lincoln, and a Mexican black king snake named Stella. In her free time, she loves spending her time with her family and friends, getting together and cooking and playing card or board games.

Kasey

Kasey

Kasey has joined the team here at Care at the Courtyard after eight years of previous experience in emergency veterinary medicine. She is especially excited about building new and long lasting client and patient relationships and has goals to further educate herself in the field. Kasey is a Massachusetts native and loves her Boston sports' teams. While pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Western Massachusetts, she completed an internship at a small non-profit zoo where she first found her passion for working with animals. When not working with animals, Kasey is at home running around with her own pack which includes her three cats, her loving husband, and their two toddlers.

Sierra has her bachelors degree in Animal Science from Fresno State. Sierra is a great baker! She also loves to hike and travel in her spare time. She has visited 15 states and has been to more than a 100 National Parks. Fun fact about Sierra is that she was named after the Sierra Mountains!

Julie is an Animal Science major. She has two fur children named Mayor and Torri. In Julie's spare time loves to spend time with her husband, making anyone she can, laugh with her incredible sense of humor. Julie also enjoys dancing, reading, and playing baseball.

Sitlali joined the Courtyard assistant team in 2020. She comes to us with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Fresno State. In her free time, she enjoys going on mini adventures with her dogs. When she is not spending time with her dogs, she enjoys spending time with her family.

Diana

Diana

Diana joined the Courtyard assistant team in July of 2020. She has degrees in math, science, and Veterinary Technology. In her free time, she loves to paint, hike, and watch movies. She also loves spending time with her bearded dragon Kai.

Kathy has been with us as a veterinary assistant since July 2018. In her free time, she enjoys baking, watching crime TV shows and spending time with family.

Samantha

Samantha

Samantha has been part of our team since January 2019. She loves all things Disney. She even named her Daughter after a princess. Sam’s animal family consists of a bearded Dragon named Mushu and a yellow lab she rescued named Duke. In her free time, she loves to work on crafts and go to the beach.

Kenna

Kenna

Kenna came to us in 2020 with 5 years’ experience in the veterinary world. She grew up in Ivanhoe as a small-town country girl. She loves spending time with family and enjoying a Yankees baseball game with her husband. She is a lover of all animals especially dachshunds and huskies.

Vanessa joined our team in 2020 as a veterinary assistant. Her favorite part of her job is getting to work with all the different patients. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and watching tv, especially Grey's Anatomy.
