Meet Our Veterinarians
Dr. Barbara Johnson
Dr. Barbara Johnson graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1999. She then completed a one-year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Following her internship, she was an associate for six years at a small animal practice in Woodland, California, where she gained experience in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency care. In 2006, Dr. Johnson moved to our practice in Visalia with her husband and family. She has an interest in internal medicine and enjoys staying current with research through veterinary journals and continuing education seminars.
Dr. Chris Peterson
Dr. Chris Peterson is a Visalia native and graduated from the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. Dr. Peterson practiced large animal medicine for eight years before switching to small animal medicine in 2006. His interests include spending time with his wife and two daughters, golf, and poker.
Dr. Marianne Krumheuer
Dr. Marianne Krumheuer is a native of the Central Valley, born and raised in Bakersfield, California. She received both bachelor's of science and doctorate of veterinary medicine from UC Davis. Upon graduation, she accepted a position as an associate veterinarian at the Care Veterinary Clinics. During veterinary school, Dr. Krumheuer participated in several humanitarian trips to foreign countries, where she worked to treat animals that do not normally have access to veterinary care.
Dr. Krumheuer is most passionate about working to develop and preserve the human–animal bond. Her special interests include internal medicine and dentistry. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Krumheuer enjoys hiking and camping with her husband and their dog, Cody.
Dr. Bryan Proctor
Dr. Bryan Proctor has been in private practice since graduating from Texas A&M University in 1993. While at Texas A∧M, Dr. Proctor earned a bachelor of science in both biomedical science and veterinary science before graduating with a degree in veterinary medicine. He has interests in small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Sonja Peterson
Dr. Sonja Peterson graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 after completing her undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science at the University of Arizona. During her university years, she worked for small animal and equine veterinarians in the Bay Area, Arizona, and Oregon. She also volunteered with several humane societies and animal rescue organizations. She was born in Fresno and was immediately drawn back to the central valley to work at Care Veterinary Clinic. Her hobbies include hiking with her two German Shepherds and ballet dancing.
Dr. Jaime Lee
Dr. Jaime Lee is originally from Southern California and earned her Bachelor's degree in Animal Biology from UC Davis. She moved to Kansas and received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Kansas State University. Dr. Lee has had previous experience working and volunteering in zoos, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and humanitarian trips to underserved areas with minimal access to veterinary care. She is dedicated to enriching the human animal bond between people and their pets, and has special interests in exotic animal medicine and small animal internal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, trying new types of cuisines, and kicking back in a hammock with a good book.
Meet Our Friendly Staff
Alex has been part of the Care family since 2008, where she has worked at both Care and Courtyard. She is very versatile and can assist in treatment and work as a receptionist. Currently, she serves as the Courtyard pharmacy technician. She grew up in Miramonte, CA, and graduated from Reedley High School. When she is not working, Alex enjoys spending time with her growing family and her pets. She also enjoys reading books and make-up artistry.
Randi has devoted most of her life to helping animals. She began as an animal control officer with the Santa Barbara City Police Department before starting at Courtyard in 2003. She has become a very important part of our veterinary assistant team and has a special talent for assessing animal personalities. Randi is originally from New York, but she has lived in Visalia since 2001. She enjoys spending time with her daughter and taking vacations to Morro Bay. Cato, her Great Dane mix, is the love of her life. It is not uncommon to see the two of them driving around town with Cato’s big head hanging out her car window with his face full of slobber.
Cori is a Registered Veterinary Technician working at Courtyard. She prides herself on being a country girl, born and raised in Tulare, and growing up with horses. She loves all animals, the four members of her animal family include both dogs and cats.
Chelsea was born and raised in Visalia. She graduated from Redwood High School and attended COS. Her fur family consists of two rescue dogs, Abby a lab mix and Bagheera a German shepherd mix. Chelsea loves making people laugh with her fun personality. Chelsea loves spending her free time with her husband and going camping, hiking, hanging with friends and going to Disneyland. Chelsea has a love for all kinds of different animals. She is loving working here and being able to see animals all day!
Megan has worked in the veterinary field for over 8 years. Currently, she is working as a veterinary assistant at Care at the Courtyard. Clients will sometimes find Megan working with them in the examination rooms. A talented whistler, Megan loves to whistle while she works. She also enjoys entertaining staff with her many different accents and impersonations. When not at work, Megan enjoys doing puzzles and playing board games with her husband and her cat Scooter.
Amanda has been with Care since September 2017 as a Veterinary Assistant. She comes to us with 5 years previous Veterinary experience and an AS in Veterinary Technology. Her family consists of a loving husband and two cats, Rambo and Rocky. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching musicals and Disney movies, and spending time with family.
With a strong compassion for all animals, Valarie is excited to have joined our family at Courtyard as a receptionist. Aside from her love for animals, she also has a passion for hair and makeup and has been a licensed cosmetologist for 7 years. In her spare time she enjoys continuing to do hair and makeup. Her favorite pass time of all is taking family trips, spending time with her husband, son, and their rambunctious pug, Rambo.
Amanda is a Visalia native, with a strong love of animals. She grew up on a horse ranch, where she bred, raised and rode performance horses. She has two kids, two dogs, and two horses. Amanda enjoys hiking, riding her horses, and spending quality time with her children.
Yvonne moved to the Visalia area from Palm Springs. She has a passion for animals. Yvonne worked at Care Veterinary Clinic a few years back and unfortunately had to relocate. She has moved back and rejoined our team. Yvonne loves to travel, especially to the beach. She has one dog, a Pomeranian named Chito. She enjoys being around her family and also loves to refurbish furniture in her free time.
Kelsey has lived in many different places in her life. She has lived in Pismo Beach, Ca all the way to Central New Jersey for 6 years. She was mainly raised on her family's 200 acre horse ranch in Visalia. Kelsey has showed National Champion paint horses all across the United States. She has a special talent for training dogs, so she started to train service dogs. She has even trained her own dog to be a service dog! Copper, her Corgi, is her everything. Copper goes with her everywhere. You won't ever catch them apart! In Kelsey's spare time, she loves to go to the dunes and ride her quad or go to the lake to wake-board.
